Right here is the ultimate 1970s muscle machine... although it may not look like it. Unknown at the time, 1970 became the pinnacle of Detroit's muscle prowess. At General Motors especially, the rulebook was thrown out the window. The self-imposed 400 C.I. displacement limit for intermediate platforms was taken out, and each GM make responded by placing the largest engines they could in their performance offerings. However, while much attention was placed on the Chevelles and GTOs of Chevrolet and Pontiac, it may have been Buick that subtly made the ultimate GM "supercar" of the muscle era. Equipped with a new 455 C.I. V8, the 1970 Buick GS 455 produced an incredible 510 lb.-ft. of torque bolted into a car that, aside from discreet badging, didn't scream "muscle" like its crosstown rivals. The rare "Stage 1" option, of which this car is an example, went even further. The "Stage 1" option provided much more power to the 455 through the use of larger valves, bigger cylinder heads, a more aggressive camshaft, a specially-tuned 'Quadrajet" 4-barrel carburetor, more aggressive ignition timing, and a higher numerical final drive. This specific 'Stage 1" is in astounding condition, with all of the original Stage 1 specs. Powered by the Stage 1 tuned 455 C.I. V8, this car moves quick. That power is coupled to a factory tuned 4-barrel carburetor and a "Hydramatic-400" 3-speed automatic transmission. The car is colored in its original "Bamboo Cream" paint, which has been repainted only once, back in 1989. The interior is 100% original with the exception of a singular seat covering. The bucket seats are extremely comfortable, as is traditional in classic Buick style. The interior of the car matches the brown vinyl top and is complimented by wood-grain trim that is in excellent shape. This powerful GS is fitted with factory air conditioning, power windows, power steering, power brakes, a factory working AM/FM radio, a horseshoe-style shifter, an overdrive transmission gear, adjustable seats, adjustable mirrors, and a dual-exhaust system. With only 51,998 original miles, this Buick is one sleeper of a muscle car that deceives the eyes with one of the meanest V8s that Detroit ever put out. This car may not be very flashy, but that engine shows you that there is more there than meets the eye. This sleeper of a Buick is just waiting for someone to get it back out on the road!
